Which courses test before interview?
8 of the 30 courses set a test before interview: a reasoning test at Lancaster, Manchester and Sheffield; a written task at Trent; written questions at Edinburgh and Exeter, with an SJT named on Edinburgh’s own page; and a format not yet published at East London and Salomons. Birmingham, Glasgow and Hertfordshire are considering one. 6 courses say they use none. The rest have not named one. Last checked 23 October 2026.
Does any course use a situational judgement test?
Three courses name one: University of Exeter, for 2028 entry; University of Edinburgh, for 2027 entry; Salomons, for 2026 entry. Most published formats are reasoning tests or written tasks. Scenario work is common at interview.

What Exeter, Edinburgh, Salomons and East London say
Exeter’s page sets Casper from the 2027/28 admissions cycle; this cycle, the Clearing House lists its untimed questionnaires. Casper is open-response: applicants answer rather than rank. Edinburgh’s Clearing House entry does not mention its task, and neither Edinburgh page says what it involves. Salomons describes its 2026 test, in which applicants rank the responses to dilemmas trainees face, and says its 2027 tests are under review. East London, which Salomons says arranged its 2026 tests jointly with it, does not say what its test is.
