What you must meet to apply, in the course’s own words.
Driving licence
applicants must hold a valid driving licence which permits the holder to drive in the UK. The university will ask for a copy of your driving licence as part of the application process.
Applicants who have a disability that means they cannot drive must email the course before submitting their application and provide supporting documentation from a registered medical practitioner stating that their disability prevents them from driving.
Alternatively, applicants can submit evidence that they have been in receipt of Access to Work funding for a disability that would prevent them from driving, within the last two years. A decision will then be taken over whether the driving licence requirement can be waived.

Right to work and fee status
Be eligible for home fee status with the university.

There are currently no self-funded places on the course (i.e. all of our places are NHS-funded).

GBC when you apply
Applicants must be eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) from the British Psychological Society (BPS) and be able to demonstrate this at the time of application.
We cannot consider applicants who are currently studying to meet our academic requirements i.e. if you have not completed your undergraduate psychology degree, psychology conversion course or Masters degree (if you did not get a 2:1or 1st for your undergraduate degree).

DegreeOur summary: A lower second (2:2): With a completed relevant PhD, or a completed relevant master’s at 65% or above, merit or distinction.
A 1st or 2:1 Psychology degree is essential if you have an undergraduate degree only.
If you have a 2:2 Psychology undergraduate degree you will be considered if you hold a completed relevant PhD or a completed relevant Masters Degree and meet at least one of the following criteria:
Obtained an overall score 65% or above as demonstrated on your transcript
Awarded an overall classification of Merit
Awarded an overall classification of Distinction
The conversion course must achieve an average of 60% or above.

ExperienceOur summary: 12 months minimum.
One full year (or its equivalent on a part-time basis) of relevant work experience must have been completed by the time of application.
At least part of the clinical experience must be recent i.e. must have been gained within 2 years of making your application.
However, applicants whose experience is restricted solely to academic research must ensure that they have also gained relevant exposure to supervised clinical practice within an applied setting before applying.

English language
For applicants for whom English is not their first language and their university qualifications were not taught or examined in English, Salomons require an overall IELTS score of at least 7.5 with no element below 7.5.

Earlier NHS-funded training
If you have received NHS funding for a psychological professions training course that started since March 2022 and are not at least 2 years post qualification, you may not be eligible to apply.

Other study
You must not be formally registered for (or re-sitting examinations) for another programme of study at any other Higher Education Institution at the start of our course (last week of September/first week of October each year).

Test, format not published

Tests are used, and the format for 2027 entry is not published.
More about the test
The course states: “Our selection test process for 2027 entry is currently being reviewed and therefore we cannot share further information at this stage.” Everyone meeting the minimum entry criteria is invited to sit them, and the interview short-list is compiled from the test scores. The course's own application page still publishes its tests for 2026 entry, under the heading “Test arrangements for 2026”: two multiple-choice tests. The research Multiple Choice Question Test “may include a range of questions relating to statistical issues, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and ethics”. In the Clinical Psychology Situational Judgement Test (CP SJT), applicants are given scenarios “representing dilemmas often faced by trainee clinical psychologists” and “rank order how they would respond to the situation from the options provided”. That describes 2026 entry. Salomons says 2027 is under review.

A note on this record
Salomons' own application page carries no date, heads its test section “Test arrangements for 2026” and still gives interview dates in 2025, so read it as a description of earlier cycles, not of 2027. It says Salomons and East London “work collaboratively over arrangements for completing the tests”, and that the 2026 tests for both programmes were due on the same day. Nothing published says whether 2027 keeps either test.

Reported second-hand: some 2026 entry test scores failed to save, research MCQ resits followed, and Salomons is said to have shortlisted on the research MCQ alone after SJT glitches.

What Salomons says about feedback
Following the interviews, candidates are informed of the outcome by email and are invited, if they wish, to receive brief feedback on their interview performance from a member of the interview panel. The Course is unfortunately not able to offer individual feedback to applicants who are not short-listed for interview due to the large number of applications received.
