  • Right to work and fee status

    We are unable to consider:

    Self-funded applicants without overseas fee status

    Funded applicants who do not have the right to work in the UK

  • GBC when you apply

    We are unable to consider:

    Applicants who are not eligible for GBC (or who cannot provide confirmation of eligibility for GBC by the time shortlisting commences in February). Applicants who are currently completing a GBC-accredited undergraduate degree or conversion course in the UK or Ireland must have completed the degree, obtained the results and provided a document to confirm their GBC status by the time short-listing commences at the beginning of February.

  • DegreeOur summary: A lower second (2:2): Only with a completed research master’s, PhD or DPhil in which research is at least half the award. A taught master’s does not count.

    We are unable to consider:

    Applicants with an undergraduate degree at 2:2 level without a further research degree (see below)

    An applicant with a 2:2 in their undergraduate degree will be considered only where they have successfully completed (at the point of application) a postgraduate research programme at Masters, PhD or DPhil level.

  • ExperienceOur summary: No minimum set.

    There is no formal minimum length of clinical experience required, but we cannot consider your application if you do not have any such experience.

  • English language

    Please note however that for the ClinPsyD, if the candidate is demonstrating their English language proficiency through IELTS, it is required that this is at IELTS Level 7 (with no score below 7 in each test element - listening, reading, writing and speaking) or equivalent.

  • Earlier NHS-funded training

    This means that if you have received funding for an NHS-funded psychological professions training programme in the last two years, and you commenced your studies after the 1 April 2022, you will not be eligible to apply.

  • Other study

    Please note that the University will not usually allow you to enrol onto the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology if you are currently enrolled on any other degree e.g. a PhD or Masters’ programme.

A panel interview, a role-play with an actor or panel member and a research critique.

A single combined admissions interview of 75 minutes covering clinical and academic or research areas, using a standard set of questions and scenarios. The course states candidates can expect “a brief role-play addressing a specific clinical situation” and “a critical analysis of a research abstract”. Materials are read within the interview itself. The course anticipates face-to-face interviews at UEA for NHS-funded candidates in 2027; self-funded international candidates are interviewed online.

What your form is rated on

We assess against criteria that directly relate to the role of a Trainee Clinical Psychologist. Some of the key things that we consider in both our shortlisting and interviewing process (more fully outlined in the Person Specification) include:

  • demonstrating a good understanding of research design principles;
  • the ability to develop a research proposal;

    Invitees were asked to bring a consent form to the interview and to send ranked placement preferences in advance. Other posters in the thread said the form was missing from the letter and was emailed later.
