Before interview

Tests are used and the format is not published. Applicants meeting the basic eligibility criteria are invited to an Assessment Day and “must achieve scores on these tests that place them in approximately the upper 50th percentile of the cohort of applicants” to progress. Test scores are then combined with a detailed application rating.

The course confirms a test exists but does not publish its format.

At interview

An Admissions Day of several tasks assessed against the Trainee Person Specification, involving programme staff, regional clinical supervisors and the People's Committee — a group of service users and carers with lived experience of mental health difficulties in the borough. Offers are ranked on the combined Assessment Day, application rating and Admissions Day scores.

  • Panel interview
  • Values-based questioning

Applicant-reported, not published

Applicants have reported a situational judgement element at UEL in previous cycles. The course does not name its test format, so this is neither confirmed nor denied.

This is not on the course's page. We keep it separate from what the course publishes rather than merging the two, because a report is not a source.

Worth knowing

One of two courses that confirm tests exist while withholding the format, and one of the two most plausible current users of an SJT for exactly that reason.

Partly relevant

If you have applied here

This course tests before interview and will not say what the test is. At interview this course uses values-based questioning, which is the same reasoning the practice here rehearses.

What to do

  • Work through the scenario practice — it rehearses weighing imperfect responses against professional standards, which is what these tasks assess.
  • Read the course’s own selection page before you prepare. It is linked on this page and it is the only authority on its own process.

Where this site does not help

  • Because the format is withheld, nothing here is matched to this course’s test. Any site claiming to know what it contains is guessing.

Practice material here reflects what research and first-hand accounts indicate these assessments are like. No course publishes its test, so nothing is confirmed and this site claims no inside knowledge. Not affiliated with University of East London, the Clearing House, the BPS or the HCPC.
