Before interview
The course states: “We do not use any shortlisting tests at UCL in addition to this process.” The strongest candidates are identified from application ratings alone.
The course states it uses no short-listing test.
At interview
Two parts: an individual panel interview, with questions including some based on a clinical vignette presented shortly before the interview, and a group task. The individual panel is at least one course staff member plus usually two regional clinical psychologists who supervise trainees.
- Panel interview
- Written clinical vignette
- Group task
Worth knowing
UCL states it is currently reviewing its interviews, and that any changes will be communicated to candidates who are invited.
Practice here is relevant
If you have applied here
There is no short-listing test here, so everything rests on the application form and the interview. At interview this course uses written clinical vignette, which is the same reasoning the practice here rehearses.
What to do
- Work through the scenario practice — it rehearses weighing imperfect responses against professional standards, which is what these tasks assess.
- Read the course’s own selection page before you prepare. It is linked on this page and it is the only authority on its own process.
Practice material here reflects what research and first-hand accounts indicate these assessments are like. No course publishes its test, so nothing is confirmed and this site claims no inside knowledge. Not affiliated with University College London, the Clearing House, the BPS or the HCPC.
