Lancaster University selection

SHL's Verify Interactive deductive reasoning test: 12 items in a standard 18-minute limit, taken online. It is adaptive, and scored on a combination of work rate, hit rate and question level. The course is explicit that the test result is the only thing determining progression: “It is only the results of this test which define who will proceed to subsequent stages of our admissions process and no other information from the application form is used.”

Before interview

SHL's Verify Interactive deductive reasoning test: 12 items in a standard 18-minute limit, taken online. It is adaptive, and scored on a combination of work rate, hit rate and question level. The course is explicit that the test result is the only thing determining progression: “It is only the results of this test which define who will proceed to subsequent stages of our admissions process and no other information from the application form is used.”

A published reasoning test before interview.

At interview

The course states its selection after the short-listing test looks at competencies rather than knowledge and skills.

  • Panel interview

Worth knowing

Lancaster points candidates at SHL's own practice tests, and notes that the deductive test used in the live sitting is not the same as the one on SHL's public practice site.

Practice here will not help with the test

If you have applied here

Your first hurdle is a reasoning test, and this site does not prepare you for it.

What to do

  • Read the course’s own selection page before you prepare. It is linked on this page and it is the only authority on its own process.
  • Practise deductive reasoning with the test publisher’s own materials, which the course links to.

Where this site does not help

  • This site has no practice for the reasoning test that decides whether you reach interview. Nothing here trains it, and clinical scenario practice is not what it measures.

Practice material here reflects what research and first-hand accounts indicate these assessments are like. No course publishes its test, so nothing is confirmed and this site claims no inside knowledge. Not affiliated with Lancaster University, the Clearing House, the BPS or the HCPC.
