Course
University of Edinburgh selection
The course states that “all applicants will be sent some additional questions to respond to online”, and that short-listing uses “anonymised application forms and answers to the additional questions”. The Clearing House lists Edinburgh among the courses using short-listing tests or questionnaires. The questions themselves are not published. Usually about 110 candidates are invited to interview.

Written questions or a questionnaire before interview.
At interview
Usually one interview of about 40 minutes covering academic, applied research, clinical and professional competences. The course also “usually asks all candidates to take part in an interpersonal role play task with an actor”. Interviews will be online in 2027.
- Panel interview
- Role-play with an actor or panel member
Worth knowing
A widely-read competitor page describes an “online Situational Judgement Task” at Edinburgh. Edinburgh's own page, updated 7 September 2026, describes additional online questions and an interpersonal role play with an actor, and names no situational judgement test.
Partly relevant
If you have applied here
This course asks written questions before interview and does not publish what they cover. At interview this course uses role-play with an actor or panel member, which is the same reasoning the practice here rehearses.
What to do
- Work through the scenario practice — it rehearses weighing imperfect responses against professional standards, which is what these tasks assess.
- Read the course’s own selection page before you prepare. It is linked on this page and it is the only authority on its own process.
Where this site does not help
- The course does not publish what its questions contain, so nobody can prepare you for them specifically. Be sceptical of anyone who claims otherwise.
Practice material here reflects what research and first-hand accounts indicate these assessments are like. No course publishes its test, so nothing is confirmed and this site claims no inside knowledge. Not affiliated with University of Edinburgh, the Clearing House, the BPS or the HCPC.
